The Up with People (UWP) program is a multi-continenet tour to 20 destinations on at least two continents in one 22-week semester. Spending nearly a week in each community, students experience the sights, sounds and tastes of the places they visit. Whether engaging with the locals through service projects, taking in the area as tourists, or gaining VIP access to places and people, the cultural opportunities are endless.

One of the most unique features of the UWP experience is our participants' time living with and learning from host families in every community they visit. The level of cultural immersion and understanding gained through the host family experience is difficult to attain through any other type of travel.

Few global programs can match the diversity found in the UWP program. Each semester we welcome approximately 100 participants from 20 countries. Traveling, learning and living together for 22 weeks makes this a unique cultural experience every single day.

Through everyday interactions and facilitated in-depth discussions, there are countless opportunities for students to learn about culture in the places they visit and from one another. Whether embracing a new language, understanding cultural traditions, or challenging their own stereotypes, Up with People students find they learn as much about themselves as they do about the world around them.

Developing a sense of social responsibilty through hands on community service is a core feature of the UWP program. Service projects are an integral part of our time in every city we visit. By volunterring to meet the specific needs of each community, students develop insight into how different cultures address social and political challenges.

More importantly, they find that working to improve the lives of others has a positive impact on their own lives. The UWP program aims to help its young leaders internalize that it's not 'getting' but 'giving' that leads to personal growth.

Up with People was founded on the principal of using music as a way to communicate with and inspire people. In each city, our participants (referred to as a cast) collaborate to perform a vibrant musical stage show that brings the community together. Local partnering organizations are featured and together we aim to spark people to action in meeting the needs of their communities, countries and the world.

Our aim is to create global citizens and develop the critical skills our particpants will need to be successful in any career.

Our experiential education curriculum is delivered though workshops and hands-on learning focused on cultural awareness, leadership, communication, and group development.

Each city we visit is a classroom and learning laboratory. Participants meet with political, corporate and social leaders, visit regional points of interest, and discuss relevant topics and issues. While traveling, students can apply for various internships facilitated by program staff in areas like marketing, public relations, education, event logistics and performing arts.

Through our partnership with Florida Southern College (FSC), participants have the option to enroll in our academic program to complete three university courses and earn 12 credit hours during one UWP semester abroad. Coursework is delivered and transcripts are issued by FSC. The academic program is offered in addition to all other program compnents. It is optional and open to any student who meets the enrollment criteria. Courses offered may be in Humanities, Social Sciences, Business or Arts. US univeristy students may be eligible to use their federal financial aid and other university scholarships. All UWP participants are eligible to apply for UWP scholarships.
